Bradwell Nuclear Power Station, Essex, UK. 22nd October 2015. One of the first generation Magnox sites in the UK began generation in 1962 and closed in 2002. Now in the process of being decommissioned, it is one of the 3 sites announced for the building of new reactors largely financed by Chinese investment. This announcement has caused much local protest, especially from residents of Mersea Island which is only a short distance away across the picturesque Blackwater Estuary.
