Statue of Science. Bronze statue of a woman representing Science. The woman is holding a centrifugal governor, a classic symbol of the industrial revolution and mechanisation. The centrifugal governor, or regulator, was a device that was used to keep the speed of a steam engine constant. The statue is one of four allegorical figures on the Holborn Viaduct, London, UK. The figures were sculpted by Farmer and Brindley and erected in 1868.
