The pull of the draw gear is againstthe inside face of the end sill, whichconsists of a I in. plate 17^^ ins. deep,held by the side sills, the web plates inline with inner faces of the center sills,and a pair of diagonal braces to thebody bolster. The draw bar pullsagainst a heavy steel casting, whichcovers two sets of friction discs whichbear against the end sill. The buffingshocks are taken up, as is usual in Eng-lish practice, by a pair of heavy buffersplaced in line with the inner webs ofthe side sill girders. The center sillgirders are diagonally braced on thetruck side of what we have called thevertical plate wall of the well. Thewhole car forms an interesting study inspecial car design.
