In thesecond case a fistulous opening led into thebone above the permanent molars, and ne-crosis of the maxilla was suspected. Thepatient had been treated for a long time forsuppuration of the antrum. At the bottomof the cyst part of a molar tooth was found. A follicular odontome invariably occurs inconnection with teeth the eruption of which is natural size (after Sutton). The toothretarded or prevented from their being devel-oped in an abnormal position, whereby they become impacted by thesurrounding bone. These tumors appear at a period of life succeedingthat at which the alveolar portions of the maxillae are in a state ofactive development, in which they readily furnish an amount of bonesufficient to perfectly envelop the tooth.
