False colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the surface of a 256K (kilobyte) Dynamic Random Access Memory chip (a DRAM chip), a silicon-based integrated circuit. DRAM chips are usually inexpensive to produce and are used as a memory where the contents need refreshing every 2 milliseconds. The opposite of dynamic memory is static memory: static memory devices do not require periodic refresh cycles. Magnification: X 1300 at 35mm size. Grey and blue colouring.
