Phrenology model of a head. The pseudo-science of phrenology, which was popular in the nineteenth century, was based on the belief that a person's intellect and personality were related to the shape of their skull and scalp. This theory was proposed by the German physician Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828). This model shows the characteristics associated with particular areas of the skull.
