Skin anatomy, illustration
Illustration showing the anatomy of human skin. The skin layers include an outer layer of dead skin cells (stratum corneum), below which is the epidermis, and then the dermis (thickest layer), with the hypodermis (subcutaneous tissue) containing fat, at bottom. The dermis contains sebaceous glands, sweat (eccrine) glands, nerves and blood vessels. Beneath the skin is a layer of fascia connective tissue and muscle.
