I should apprehend that Sir William Childe, the father oftins numerous family, was a Master oi Chancery previous tothe Civil Wars. At least, lie appears .it the head of tiie listof those who entered upon that office June 1st, 1669, two daysafter the1 Restoration of Monarchy. He resigned his postJune 17th, 1O72, in favour of his son, and was buried atKinlet May 8th, 1678. Me is represented in his picture nowin the library at Kinlet, 111 his doctors robes, with a good.
