The Italian Chapel, Orkney, Scotland.

Following the German u-boat attack on the British Fleet in Scappa Flow, Churchill demanded the building of causeways linking the eastern islands to block off access to Scapa Flow. Italian prisoners of war were drafted in to help build these. After the Italian surrender, the prisoners were paid fairly for their labour. Given two Nissen huts end to end to make a chapel, they lined it with plasterboard, and scavenged materials, and painted it to resemble a wonderful tiled, frescoed church. The chapel is now world famous.
