Personal documents of Markos Vamvakaris, the "patriarch" of Rembetiko (or "Rebetiko") music, in Vamvakaris museum, in his "hometown",Ano Syros, Syros island, Cyclades, Aegean sea, is unique among all the other Greek islands because it is inhabited by 2 different religious communities, one Catholic and one Orthodox. The Catholics mostly live in Ano Syra, the old "Chora" (=capital) of the island, while the Orthodox mostly live in Ermoupolis, a newer town (19th century) and modern capital of the island and Cyclades, a town full of beautiful neoclassical buildings.
