In 1997, hammer schmidt lassen won a competition to design ARoS Art Museum in the heart of Aarhus, Denmark's second city. One of the largest modern art museums in Europe, it opened in 2004 and was extended in 2011 with the installation of Olafur Eliasson's striking 'Your Rainbow Panorama' circular rooftop walkway. The 10-storey building stands 50 metres high on a sloping site - its severe brick exterior giving way to a dazzling white interior, with curved balconies, high level walkways and a spectacular staircase. Journeying upwards through the building, visitors finally arrive at a 1,500 sq m roof terrace surmounted by 'Your Rainbow Panorama'. 150 metres long and 52 metres in diameter, the elevated glass walkway in all colours of the rainbow affords views over the entire city.
