Huon Pine candlestick holders at Wilderness Woodworks, a specialty timber mill in Strahan, Tasmania. The tree is native to south west Tasmania and highly prized for its fine grain and natural oils that resist rot. Trees grow for several thousand years and are some of the oldest living organisms in the world; it is illegal to cut living trees. Huon pine was previously used to build boats and windows; extremely expensive these days it is mostly used for craft.
