Durga Puja is the greatest religious festival of the Hindu community in Bangladesh and some regions of India. Hindus participate in it with great enthusiasm .Multicultural people also gather here to observe this ritual traditional festival and exchange the greetings by showing the communal harmony. Durga Puja festival is a religious heritage of Hindus which is difficult to say with any degree of certainty exactly how old it is . The oldest manifestation of goddess Durga, who slew the Mahisasura, belongs to the fifteenth century. A series of festivals centering on Durga Puja is held in Bangladesh . Usually on the sixth day of the lunar month of the bright fortnight which fall which falls in the Bengoli month Ashwin ( in autumn) th ceremonial awakening of goddess Durga takes place . Thereafter, Puja is performed for three days on the seventh, eighth and ninth , and the immersion of the image of the goddess Durga with her companions takes place on the tenth day which is called Bisharjan ( dedication) . The goddess Durga is depicted with ten hands according to ritual myths . The icons are made of straw and clay and then painted with splendid colours and decorated with colorful clothes .
