09/09/16 This year's Red Windsor apples are redder than ever thanks to perfect growing conditions. Ali Capper from Stocks Farm near Malvern, Worcestershire said: "The lovely summer has been warm and wet when we needed it. The differential in temperature and mix of warm days and cool nights has been perfect for the crop here in this part of the country" "We lost our entire apple crop to a freak summer hailstorm last year. Thankfully this year's late spring stopped the blossom coming on too early and reduced the chance of frost damage. And since then the conditions have been better than we could have hoped for" The Red Windsor apple was first discovered in the village 25 years ago. The relatively new variety has a sweet and tangy flavour and will continue to ripen for a couple of months before appearing on the shelves in Tesco later this autumn.
