General Electric Companys New Type ofCircuit Opening Oil Dashpot Relay A new type of circuit-opening inversetime limit oil dashpot relay has recentlybeen developed by the General ElectricCompany for use in conjunction with a. NEW COMPENSATOR TYPE RELAY. low voltage release for automatic, over-load and low-voltage protection of alter-nating current motors up to 2,500 voltsand 300 amperes. The relay is connected in scries with the line, the low voltage release acrossone phase in the usual manner with thelow voltage coil in series with the relaycontacts. On overload greater than the currentsetting the relay, the relay contacts open-circuit the low voltage release coil andthe motor is cut out of circuit. If thevoltage drops to a predetermined per cent,of normal, the motor is also disconnectedfrom the power supply. This relay is mostly employed withmotors using self-contained compensatorcontrol, but sometimes for switchboardservice when both low voltage and timedelay overload protection are series relays replace the secondaryrelays, current transformers and oilswitch tripping coils otherwise required
