The illustration on the opposite page shows a plant, withstore-house on the right, having a tire-proof opening roomannexed, in w^iich are placed two specially-constructed feed-ers for opening bale cotton. Bales of different grades arerun in from store-house behind feeders, and the operator infilling the hoppers from first one, then the other, ensuresa perfect mixing of the stock. From the doffer end of feed-ers the cotton passes into a galvanized iron conducting piperunning through an underground protection to a breakmg-uoexhaust fan located on picker room floor, wdiich blows thesame through a similar pipe and two-way valve in equalquantities to tw^o Amoskeag condensers located overhead inpicker opening room, or the whole product of conductingpipe can be blown to either condenser at will.
