view over Wismar Baltic Sea Germany

St. Nikolai Church in Wismar The Church is a late Gothic brick built structure with an impressive 37m high central nave, the largest after Cologne and Ulm and the third highest in Germany. Famous for its ornate facade and altars. The church of St Nicholas (Nikolaikirche), built in 1381-1460, with very lofty vaulting, is regarded as good examples of the influence exercised in these northern provinces . Of the three gigantic brick cathedrals, unfortunately only the St. Nikolai Church survived the war virtually unscathed.
