HON. HENKV A. fOMINS, The subject of this sketch, was born in F]ast Edding-ton, Penobscot County. Maine, in the year ancestors were among the early settlei-s of NewEngland, suffering the privations incident to those. Henry A. Comins. early days, and often called to defend their homesagainst the attacks of the Indians. Serving withcredit in the Indian wars, the}- engaged with patrioticdevotion in the struggle for independence duringthe Kevolution, and again fought heroically in thewar of 1812, and never with dishonor. Ho becamea student at the VVeslbrook Seminary, near Port-land, Maine, but left the school before 1S58 he removed from Maine, and coming toCalifornia, by way of the Isthmus, engaged inplacer mining for several years with varied suc-cess. In 18G3 he settled in Nevada, at BmpircCity, in Ormsby Count}-, when he engaged success-fully in the lumber business. In 18ii0 he removedto White Pine, carrying on the lumber trade atHamilton, Ward and Cherry Creek. He has alsoengaged in farming and mining. Accumulatingquite a fortune in his various cnterjjrises, he haslived to see his riches take wings, but leavinghim energy, integrity, and perseverance to acquireanother fortune. He has
