Buckfast Abbey is remarkable for the supervening endeavour of its founders - the Benedictine Monks. The Abbey grounds are more than 1,000 years old but the original Abbey formed at the time of King Canute were destroyed by Henry VIII. It was resurrected by Boniface Natter and Anscar Vonier and the last stone was laid in 1937.
