The Haus der Statistik was the office of the East German statistics office and has stood empty for the best 10 years. Artists and local politicians prevented its demolition and plan to convert it into workshops for artists, low-rent housing and community projects in a non-profit venture to counteract the rise in rents as Berlin's housing market booms.
