Going South with his regiment,our subject participated in all the marches and bat-tles in which it was engaged until the close of thewar. Among the more important battles in whichhe fought we make mention of Stone River, Chat-tanooga, Missionary Ridge, and the Atlanta Cam-paign, and he was later with the command ofThomas in the pursuit of Hoods army, and thusoccurred the battles of Franklin and wounded at Mission Ridge twice, our subjectremained with his regiment in preference to goingto the hospital. Returning again to the peaceful pursuits offarm life, Mr. Beatson was engaged in cultivatingthe soil until 1869, when he went to WinnebagoTownsiiip and purchased a farm, upon which he re-sided until 1875, when he removed to another por-tion of the township, on a tract which came intohis possession, and there made his home until that date coming to Rockford, our subject hassince been actively engaged m
