Railway and Locomotive Engineering . s is feeding down. The hand-wheels for operating the traverse of thebar and the feed clutch are located on theoperating side of the machine, and thetCMil slide is also conveniently adjustedir^m the operators position by means ofa socket wrench The handling -if the wheels is accom-(iliihed by a drum type crane as shown ill the illustrations or by a pneumaticcrane if preferred. Both are convenientlylocated and are rapid and reliable in op-eration. The drum type crane is con-trolled by friction clutches operated by aconveniently placed lever; and no harmcan be done if the wheel is lifted to itshighest position in the event of the op- ar Wheel Borer,Attachment,or Motor Drive rcvdlutions per minute. There are no lessthan six table speeds, ranging from 12 to30 revolutions per minute. When thedrum type of crane is furnished, there islirovided a separate countershaft with an18-inch diameter pulley for a 2^-inchbelt, furnishing a run of 320 revolutionsper minute. The variable speed motor. 481NC1I C.\K WHEEL nORER. erat<ir failing to throw out the pneumatic crane is also readily con-trolled by a suitable valve within easyreach of the operator. It may be added that there is also avariety in the driving appliances. The beltdrive is by a two-speed countershaft andthree-step cone for a 4-inch belt. Themaximum cliameter nl the cone is 26inches and the niininit m IS inches. Thecountershaft pulleys are 20 inches in di-ameter, and run ai speeds of 225 and 270 drive is by a IS-lmrsepuwer motor, 3 toI variable speed. When the drum typecrane is furnished, it is operated by a 3-horsepower speed motor. The ground space occupic<l by the ma-chine is 10 feet in length, width 10 feet, while the extreme height is II feet. It isscarcely necessary to add that the mate-rials are of the best, and with the recentimprovements in high-speed tool steels, the output of these fine machines will noilikely be surpassed in our time.
