Due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus all passengers on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), the sixth largest public bus system by ridership in the , are required to wear face coverings while traveling on the MBTA. Buses are cleaned multiple times during the day. The MBTA estimated it’s ridership at about 1,300,000 daily and ridership during the pandemic decreased by 78%. Britain and France joined European countries in requiring that masks by worn in public enclosed spaces.
