A row of historic town houses in the Begijnhof inner court, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The Begijnhof inner court was founded in the middle ages and renovated in 1979. Originally built for the Begijntjes, a catholic sisterhood who lived like nuns, it was the only catholic institution that was allowed to exist at this time as the houses were the private property of the women of the Beguines sisterhood.
