Business, which had been dull since Easter, was given an impetus last week by the Mothers' day sales. The demand for the day this year exceeded any pre- vious year. The rush began Thursday, was greater Friday and Saturday was the best day in several weeks. Of course there was a big demand for white car- nations and roses, but all flowers and plants sold well. Mothers' day is be- coming one of the biggest selling days of the year for Minneapolis florists. Prices went up, especially for carna- tions. There was a good supply, with large blooms and excellent stems. Boses were plentiful and the big demand was met by a supply of fine stock at good prices. American Beauties were hard to obtain and orchids were scarce. Sweet peas were in big demand and the sup- ply was exhausted in many of the retail stores. Some of the florists had a great vari- ety of stock, including poeticus, daf- fodils, daisies, stocks, irises, forget-me- nots, snapdragon and a few peonies and gladioli. Pansies and other plants are coming in and sell rapidly. Marguerite, geranium, hydrangea and rose plants also had a good sale. It was, however, diflficult to secure fine plants, as some of the greenhouses connected with ceme- teries are getting ready for outdoor work. This has been a great year for the seed business, especially in the sale of garden seeds. The warm, springlike weather the last of the week helped all branches of the trade. Various Notes.
