Tlie Regiment was ordered into the field from Camp Butler, Illinois, on the 4th day ofOctober, 18G2. Eeported to Major General Wright, at Cincinnati, Ohio, on the 6th day ofOctober, and, on the same day, crossed over into Kentucky, and reported to BrigadierGeneral A. J. Smith. Was assigned to the Second Brigade, Second Division, Army ofKentucky. While in the army of Kentucky, the Brigade commanders were Colonel Cochran, of theFourteenth Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, Colonel P. B. Swayne, of the Regular Army,and Colonel Smith D. Atkins, Ninety-second Illinois Infantry; Division commander. Gen-eral A. Baird—all under General Gordon Granger, commanding Army of Kentucky. Marched, about the 20th of October, by the way of Falmouth, Cynthiana, Paris and Lex-ington, Kentucky, to Richmond, K
