Brooklyn, New York. 216 THE CHARLOTTE MEDICAL JOURNAL- show that the pancreas might be consider-ably affected in scarlet fever, and nowrecord ten cases illustrating involvement ofthe suprarenals and pancreas in children,aged from three to eleven years, four ofwhom died. The symptoms of suprarenalinvolvement in scarlet fever are tachycardia,arterial hypotension, asthenia, epigastricpain, gastrointestinal disturbance and mel-anodermia. Except in cases of suprarenalhaemorrhage no macroscopic changes as arule are seen postmortem, but histologicalexamination shows that these glands areprofoundly affected. The lesions are chieflyconfined to the cortex, and consist of de-generative and hsemorrhagic lesions withdisappearance of the normal lipoids. Thesymptoms of scarlatinal pancreatitis are notalways definite, but are sometimes mani-fested by acute abdominal pain, most in-tense in the epigastrium, and lasting on theaverage three to five days, by intense andrapid emaciation, and by copious ill-digestedand fcetid
