Probably the noblest of all hardy, perennial decorative foliage plants, with leaves which, under favorable conditions, frequently measure 5 to 10 feet across: a well grown plant, attaining a height of 5 feet by 15 to 20 feet in diameter; but to produce a satisfactory growth it must receive liberal treatment. Very rich, deep, mellow soil is indispensable. Full exposure to the sun is advisable, but they should be sheltered from severe winds, and must never suffer for the want of water.
