Evans, formerly of Gainesville, Pla., who recently started a seed store in Jacksonville, reports business far ahead of his expectations. The death of Frank T. Emerson, form- erly of the Western Seed & Irrigation Co., which took place April 23, at Mer- cedes, Tex., is reported in this week's obituary column. The Albert Dickinson Co., Chicago, has just procured a building permit for a 7- story brick seed elevator to cost $100,- 000, as a part of the block of buildings it will put up at West Thirty-fifth street and South California avenue. Walter E. Block, formerly with W. H. Small & Co., at Evansville, Ind., has purchased an interest in the Champaign Seed Co., at Champaign, 111., and has been elected vice-president of the firm He will devote his entire time to buying and testing. C. C. Morse & Co., of San Francisco, have been fortunate enough to strike a splendid flow of water in one of the new wells on their San Juan farm. They have been pumping a 10-inch stream onto their fields for several weeks, running the pump both day and night. An inspection of the seed crops in the San Juan and Hollister districts of Cali- fornia, April 19, showed them to be about a month late.
