Bureau of Animal Industry,Wasliingtori, I). 61, Fehruary i, : I have the lionor to transmit herewith a manuscript on Necro-tic stomatitis, with special reference to its occurrence in calv^es(calf diphtheria) and pigs (sore mouth),* l)v -Dr. John R, Mohlerand Dr. Geo. Byron Morse, both of the Pathological Division of thisBureau. It is definitely known that this disease has been in this country duringthe last three or four years, and it is probable that it has been pres-ent a much longer time. It affects calves, pigs, adult cattle, lambs, asses, kangaroos, rabbits, dogs, and chickens, but in this countr} ithas so far been reported for calves and pigs only. The percentage oflosses varies greatly, but it is always large. I recommend that this manuscript be published as a bulletin of theBureau series. Respectfully, D. E. Salmon, Chief of Jamesnecroticstomatit00mohl
