Close up of bamboo matting.
Bamboo matting. This is made by splitting bamboo stems and weaving the resulting flexible strips. The dark green outside of the stem is alternated with the white inside to produce a pattern. The matting is very strong and is used as a building material, particularly at the gable ends of houses. Used like this it allows air flow through the roof space where agricultural produce is stored.
