Families prepare to march in a procession in honor of the Virgin. Young, Mexican-American boy dressed like St. Juan Diego, an Aztec peasant, to whom the Virgin is reputed to have appeared in 1531 near Mexico City. She is said to have left her image imprinted on his "tilma" (rough cloak) and filled his cloak with roses.
