Fuel cell testing. Technician electronically testing the performance of a Solid Polymer Fuel Cell (SPFC) stack. Digital equipment (at far right and lower centre) measures amperes, volts and temperature. The stack (at centre) contains eight fuel cells. Fuel cells convert the energy from a chemical reaction into electricity. This continues as long as fuel and an oxidiser are added to the cell while waste products are removed. This 300 Amp bipolar fuel stack has a peak power output in excess of kiloWatts. It will mainly be used for transport applications. This stack is being developed by the Fuel Cell group at Loughborough University, England.
