Nuclear power station construction. Worker using a tool during the process of inserting the guide rods through the holes on the underside of the cover of a nuclear reactor. The guide rods are the structures through which the control rods will be lowered into and withdrawn from the reactor. The control rods consist of a moderator material that absorbs neutrons and allows control of the fission reaction in the reactor core. The fission process heats water in the reactor. The heat in this water is then transferred in several stages to turbines that generate electricity. Photographed at the Framatome ANP facility at Chalon/Saint Marcel, France.
