A statue of the Roman emperor, Constantine The Great, AD 274-337, within the precinct of York Minster in the city of York, Yorkshire, Britain. Constantine was the first Christian Roman emperor, a good leader and stopped the persecution of the Christians. His reign changed the Church greatly. In February 313 AD, Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan, a letter signed by him which accepted Christianity: 10 years later, it had become the official religion of the Roman Empire.
