He spent one year in Penn-sylvania, passed the following three years in Califor-nia, and in 1867 made an extended tour in his return he took up his residence in 1871 he made his home in Lebanon County. is an old and well-known citizen of LebanonCounty, and held in high esteem. He is largely in-terested in farming enterprises, is a director of theDelaware and Susquehanna Railroad In the spring of 1836 he returned to Fredericksburg,and in 1838 entered the store of Moritz Heilner as aclerk, with whom he subsequently removed to Mi-nersville, Schuylkill Co. He remained there until1841, when he returned to Fredericksburg, andbegan clerking. In the spring of 1846 he estab-lished himself in the mercantile business, which hesuccessfully managed until 1854, when he sold outhis establishment and went to California, at the re-quest of his father. He returned home in 1857, butin 1859 went back to the Pacific coast, where he oper- HON.
