'Education demonstration': postcard of a large protest against the 1906 Education Bill on the Embankment, London. The Liberal Party Bill was an unsuccessful response to the 1902 Education Act, which had abolished school boards & created local education authorities. The 1902 Act also provided state funding to church schools run by the Church of England and the Roman Catholics, and was strongly opposed by Methodists, Baptists and other Nonconformists.
