A de Montesson Charles and Robert's decent in the Nesle valley on 1st December 1783 Gouache ( x cm) Muller-Quênot Collection On Monday 1st December 1783, Charles and Robert rose majestically into the sky from the jardins des Tuileries at forty minutes past one. The same day, at a quarter to four the machine landed between the villages of Nesle and Hédouville, in the Prairie de Nesle, 9 leagues north west of Paris, near the town of Beaumont sur l'Oise.
