View NW of Arbor Low, Derbyshire, UK: an oval setting of recumbent limestone slabs within the ditch & bank of a Class II henge monument with entrances at the SE (L) & NW. There are c 50, stones the broken remains of c 40 stones which may have stood upright in shallow foundations. At the centre are the remains of a 'cove', a setting of 7 stones probably originally forming a square enclosure. The view is taken from a Bronze Age barrow (containing 2 food vessels inside a cist) which was built on to the bank of the Neolithic henge. Arbor Low was a major ceremonial site, its alignments & geometry concerned with the sun & moon at the solstices. Some 50 leys (ley lines) are said to pass through it.
