NEW WATER TUBE BOILER. THE New York Safety Steam Power Companyhave just put out a new form of water tube boiler, which would seem to unite great compactnessand strength with large area of heating surface. Figs, ishows it with cover on; Fig. 2 with cover entirelyremoved. It will be seen that there is almost no surfacearea of the boiler that is not exposed to the heat. At thesame time there is no difficulty in making the grate of aslarge an area as necessity requires. In places whereboiler floor space is dear, the foregoing peculiarities areespecially valuable. A boiler of 200-horse-power can be)iassed through a 4 by 4 foot All the tubes are straight and every tube end connec-tion is expanded into the side walls. On the outside ofthe walls there is a hand-hole corresponding to each tubeend, and large enough to admit a tube expander. Thecap is ground down to a steam tight joint. Of coursethe side doors can at any time be opened to admit ofinspection of the caps. The casing is lined with a heavy coat of asbestosand magnesia. The only brick required is in the founda-tion and around the grate, fire brick being, of course, used in the latter place. The tubes all being short thereis very little expansion. One interesting feature aboutthe boiler is the circulation, which, it is claimed, is kept up between the top and bottom. The feed water entersat the top mud and steam drum. From there it flowsdown through the four water tubes in the bottom of thedrum to the bottom of the boiler, thence up to the firstset of tubes and then back to the steam drum. Thiscirculation, if kept up, will k
