Following the restrictions of motorbuses which created certain gaps intransportation service the ConnecticutCompany, under its new authority,placed several buses in operation onFriday, July 15. The service instituted is as follows: 1. From East Haven to and throughBranford. This is a cut-off, as the com-pany has a rail route from New Havento East Haven to Branford, which fol-lows the shore of Long Island Soundbetween the last two cities. 2. From New Haven through Milford. Reo and Packard Buses in the Service op the Connecticut Company tention to the fact that the jitney prob-lem in Bridgeport was more compli-cated than in any other section ofthe State. The commission points out that theinadequacy of the trolley service occa-sioned the large development of jitneyservice. It finds the necessity for trol-ley service in Bridgeport to be withoutquestion, but says that the operationof jitneys in Bridgeport exists to anextent not only to prevent the success-ful operation of the trolley, but tojeopardize the successful operation ofthe jitneys themselves by reason of theexcessive competition. In speaking of the routes which havebeen approved for operation, the com-mission says that while in many in-stances these routes parallel streetrailway tracks over portions of theway, they supply a necessary servicefrom such territory into the center ofthe city.
