Gibraltar - 7th March - Young Chess champion Stephen Whatley presented the first award of the night to the Gibraltar Under 17 netball who won gold in the challenge section in Netball Europe in 2016. The GBC Sports Awards 2016, held at Brunos at Ocean Village and broadcast live brought about tears and joy. The winner for the Senior individual was Joelle Moreno who has excelled in three sports basketball, netball and football. All of which she played for the national team. The Lifetime award went to Freddy Chappory who in 1987 convinced the Islands Games Association that Gibraltar should be considered an island so that it could enter the Island Games.
