NGC 4889 galactic black hole. Artwork of stars in an elliptical galaxy clustered around a supermassive black hole (upper right) of about 10 billion solar masses. This black hole is at the centre of the galaxy NGC 4889 (also called Caldwell 35), the brightest member of the Coma Cluster of galaxies. The mass of the black hole has been determined by studies of the velocity of the stars orbiting the galactic centre. NGC 4889 is 308 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Coma Berenices. Artwork and research published in 2011.
