A chamfron, 1st half of the 16th century East Anatolian or Iranian, wrought iron. Made of one piece, featuring multiple ridges, with semi-circular chased openings for the eyes and ears. At the forehead engraved (rubbed) calligraphic cartouche over cut "Tamga" of the St. Irene arsenal in Constantinople. Engraved cartouche in the form of a palmette on either side of the frontal and nasal section. Cleaned surface, small loss over the left eye. Height 53 cm.
