Vintage WWI armoured car or tank related Black and white photograph

Four tanks and their crews. Judging by the collection of fuel cans, holes in the ground, shovels, canvas sheets and the tent, it would appear that this is a tank camp. The combination of heat and fumes meant that tank crews operated in extremely unpleasant conditions, with some men often on the verge of suffocation. It is believed that this photograph was taken by John Warwick Brooke around 15 September 1916. This was during the third phase of the Somme attack, which was the date when tanks were first deployed on the battlefield. Early offensives with tanks were unsuccessful due to the unsuitable terrain and the rush to deploy the new weapon before it had been properly developed. However, the tank was later used to devastating effect at The Battle of Cambrai in November 1917, when British tanks successfully broke through the German lines. During this attack, the British forces captured 10,000 prisoners and gained twelve miles of enemy territory. [Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE.
