Penis circumcised to treat phimosis. Close-up of a penis that has been stitched up following the surgical removal of the foreskin (circumcision) in a case of phimosis. The patient has diabetes, a condition that can lead to inflammation and swelling of the foreskin if blood sugar levels are too high. This can lead to, or worsen, phimosis, an overly tight foreskin that is difficult to retract. In chronic cases, the foreskin can be removed to avoid a recurrence of these symptoms.
