Having reproved a man who was living in adultery,he was killed by the latter with a hoe: hence that instrument is emblematic ofthe saint. After his death Ilumauld succoured Mechlin when besieged, andrestored sight and life to persons who were connected with tliis city. Notmany years since twenty-live paintings of the fourteenth century were foundunder the Avhitewash in a chapel of the ambulatory of this cathedral.
