MODEL RELEASED. Insulin pump use in diabetes. Insulin pump being used by a diabetic 18-year-old girl to control her condition. She has type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Diabetes is a condition where the body is resistant to or fails to produce the insulin needed to break down sugars in the blood. A diagnostic device is used to test the blood for the levels of the simple sugar glucose. This level is entered into the pump, which will dispense the insulin needed to lower the blood sugar to normal levels.
