Edward Montagu, 1st Earl of Sandwich, 1625 - 1672, refusing to leave his ship after it was attacked by Dutch fire ships during the Battle of Solebay, the first naval battle of the Third Anglo-Dutch War. Montagu subsequently drowned. After a print by William Byrne from the work by Robert Smirke originally featured in Robert Bowyer's Historic Gallery, published between 1793 and 1806.
