The land was then seeded to alfalfa with oats as a nurse crop. During 1904 a profitable crop of oats was secured and a uniform "stand" of alfalfa established. Since that time the alfalfa on this tract has run normal and healthy and the fact that the removal of alkali salts by drain- age can be accomplished definitely proven. Drainage of lands not only removes alkali but prevents water log- ging—promotes soil areation and is most desirable farm practice.
